Public Housing Solar Battery Trial: Data Analysis

2024

Data analysis from 15 weeks of performance data from the Public Housing Solar Battery Trial. Results show that the installed solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) performed as expected, with some differences between homes due to different panel shading and orientation.

For tenants, the analysis showed that expenditure on electricity was reduced by the installation of the solar battery systems. There were also some unexpected insights into how the systems were used and the impacts on disconnections from the grid.

The cohort of public housing tenants in the trial were also observed to use a very large amount of electricity, far more than the national average.
