Alice Springs Roadmap to 2030

Mar 2024

The Roadmap to 2030 is the product of three years of trials and research carried out by multiple project partners. It pulls together insights from the Alice Springs Future Grid sub-projects and lays out four pathways to achieving 50% renewable generation by 2030.

Type: Report Future Grid publication   Format: PDF

The report explores the following questions:

  • How has Alice Springs traditionally been powered?
  • How is Alice Springs’ power system changing and why?
  • What might Alice Springs’ future power system look like?
  • What are the risks and opportunities of Alice Springs’ power system transformation?

It then sets out four suggested pathways, following three phases:

  1. Secure the System
Address the current and nearer-term operational challenges in a manner that lays an enduring foundation for a power system increasingly based on renewable energy.
  2. Advanced Planning & Operation
Develop and operationalise new capabilities, systems, and tools to operate a more sophisticated, digitised, and dynamic system.
  3. Accelerate Renewable Deployment
Commission new large-scale renewable generation and enable the system to run for periods with zero gas generation.

The report concludes by laying out priority actions for key stakeholders moving forward, including developing an integrated and collaborative plan which takes a whole-system approach.
